lyrics

These photographs are over-exposed; I thought you'd really want to see the secret blueprints of the town and what in ten years it might be... I think I'd build myself a street if all my friends would live on it, but I can't give a guarantee the rain won't turn the grass to grit.

I found a shop that's always new - can sell you what you’d never wear; I'd rather stay in this red room where I have good advice to spare. The things I hear from strangers’ tongues would once upon a time have led to revolutions in the street, but on the protest signs I tread.

The photocopies taped to trees show missing Margaret chasing birds; the birds tear corners from the page to line their nests, while in the kerb I think that's Maggie lying still, matted fur and messed-up face - the hunter has become roadkill; the call goes out to take her place.

Now we can sing the old folk songs and know the truth comes back around, like how they hold a mirror to the light and dark that shade the town. Can’t help but think today is good, maybe the best we ever had - and so I raise a toast to us, and may the others be so glad.
