Town 03:48
These photographs are over-exposed; I thought you'd really want to see the secret blueprints of the town and what in ten years it might be... I think I'd build myself a street if all my friends would live on it, but I can't give a guarantee the rain won't turn the grass to grit. I found a shop that's always new - can sell you what you’d never wear; I'd rather stay in this red room where I have good advice to spare. The things I hear from strangers’ tongues would once upon a time have led to revolutions in the street, but on the protest signs I tread. The photocopies taped to trees show missing Margaret chasing birds; the birds tear corners from the page to line their nests, while in the kerb I think that's Maggie lying still, matted fur and messed-up face - the hunter has become roadkill; the call goes out to take her place. Now we can sing the old folk songs and know the truth comes back around, like how they hold a mirror to the light and dark that shade the town. Can’t help but think today is good, maybe the best we ever had - and so I raise a toast to us, and may the others be so glad.

'04 Picasso, rust of three previous owners on mismatched panels Around it the grass grows - to prolong its agony, surely will soon meet its crusher Got some place to be Got some place to be You bought the last t-shirt with no slogan that makes you look stupid or a liar The most documented of all generations desperately wants to impress or look half inspired You got some place to be? Yeah, got some place to be Misdemeanours caught in rear view mirrors Wanna fly through the streets unseen Not afraid of what it might mean To be someone who makes a difference Pushing buttons behind a screen Take the fight to the other team My grown-up reflection - now sharing a suitcase with trustworthy travelling partner - Still lies half-awake in the middle of the decade, Wondering if now is the right time to place my marker? But I’ve got some place to be Got some place to be

She thinks no one will remember us Surely statues and the mountains must? We’re not bottles washed up on the shore With half-hearted confessions Seems this memory has been rewired All its functions and its faults retired Can I be sure of anything That’s not in my possession? A fire is burning, armed and reckless Knows something I don’t know Knows something I don’t know Search your name out on the guest list If it is there at all If it is there at all Always felt like we were ten feet tall But memories are full of bullet holes Beautiful city, won’t you leave me be With yesterday’s ambitions? A storm is coming, armed and reckless Knows something I don’t know Knows something I don’t know Search your name out on the guest list If it is there at all If it is there at all Waking up with the same dismay There’s someone pulling strangers from the waves With paper hands and an urgency That we’ve formed into armour
